
Danica Sue Patrick, an American ex-professional racer. She is the most accomplished woman in American open-wheel racing the history of open-wheel racing. Her victory in the Indy Japan 300 was her first victory. With the approval of her parents, she dropped out of highschool and moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 to pursue her dream of becoming a professional. Patrick participated in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001 due to a lack in funding. In 2002, she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. She was third in championship standings of the 2004 season. This was when she became the first woman to win a position in the series. She was the IndyCar Series rookie of the year 2005, and she also took home the Indianapolis 500. She continued to improve over the next two years by joining Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and later Andretti Green Racing in 2007. Patrick was sixth overall in drivers standings in 2008 following her Japan victory. Her performance improved to place fifth in the drivers' standings following the season. This was her best performance in the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall performances slowed during the 2010 season, but she managed two-second-places at oval tracks before leaving IndyCar following the 2011 season, focusing solely on stock car racing.
