Brugel, the only Canadian actor in Season 1 was not watched. Since then, she has been a member ever since. When discussing her role as well as any parallels to her real life, beyond the screens She was able describe her own personal experience with racist treatment to those who are "Marthas" saying in part, "I use it, but not just when she is in the house as Martha, but also in her role as a Martha however, I also very often lean heavily on race as I mentioned previous experiences that I actually feel like I've been a slave for a variety of reasons, not just due to my colour. The race I'm from has never caused physical harm through my entire life, but my experience with verbal abuse has been encountered. The kind of racist slurs or insults that felt like an actual hit or impact on me, I could use on the set when someone speaks of something as sharp and stinging. I use that feeling in almost every scene because it feels like I'm being hit or slapped in some manner in nearly each scene."
