Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, 1984, at New York City New York. She is an American singer/actress whose range has gained her recognition across a range of types of films ranging from thrillers and adventures to period films. Johansson is the daughter of a film producer as well as an architect. Her family was based in New York City. Hunter was twin to her younger sister. She developed an interest in acting at a young age, and began auditioning for commercials at the age of seven. Her interest in acting grew quickly and she enrolled shortly thereafter in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. When she was eight years old, she starred with Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in an Off-Broadway musical. At the age of nine, she debuted in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson later appeared as a character in Just Cause (1995) but her breakthrough was Manny & Lo (1996) an upcoming film that follows siblings who are orphaned and run away. Next, she received high praise from critics for her performance as a teenage girl who had suffered an accident that resulted in her being with a blemish in The Horse Whisperer (1998). She gained more attention with the film Ghost World (2002) as the self-deprecating outcast Rebecca. Renee Felice Smith entered the realm of entertainment when she was very young. As a child she was attracted to performing. With the support of her parents Smith got her first acting gig when she was just six. The role was in the Dannon yogurt TV commercial. As with many actresses who started out, she decided to perfect her art in the realm of theatre. She also worked in other productions across the USA and Canada, but Wildflower was her first stage production. She was a graduate of her Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
